The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) is a regional secret; US News & World Report ranks UNI second among the Midwest's top public universities and Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine calls UNI one of the nation's top 100 values in public colleges. UNI's College of Education is the oldest department on campus, and its commitment to excellence has established UNI as one of the Midwest's premier teacher preparation schools.
UNI came to Gorton Studios looking for a partner to plan, design and build a new website for the College of Education. UNI is moving completely to the Drupal platform, and, as such, a secondary goal of the project was to create a flexible theme that could be used by UNI staff to rework the websites of other colleges and organizations within the University.
Gorton Studios worked with both UNI and COE staff to come up with a cohesive design and a flexible set of layouts and page types. We also held training with UNI staff to bring designers, developers, webmasters and other stakeholders up to speed on how Drupal works and how the site was built; preparing their teams to continue evolving and extending the website in new directions in the future.
